چکیده
Abstract Background Surgery is a potential trigger of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), disorder which leads to an autoimmune-mediated attack peripheral nerves. The present study was designed explore clinical features post-surgical GBS compared with those general in order provide better advice patients undergoing surgery. Methods medical records who were seen at 31 tertiary hospitals southern China between January 1, 2013 and September 30, 2016 retrospectively analyzed. Post-surgical defined as symptoms within 6 weeks after Clinical are described GBS. Results Among the 1001 patient cases examined this study, 45 (4.5%) exhibited Within group, 36 (80.0%) developed initial limb weakness. average interval surgery symptom onset 13.31 days. most common type triggered orthopedic surgery, followed by neurological Compared GBS, characterized higher proportion severe (Hughes functional grading scale (HFGS) score ≥ 3) upon admission nadir, HFGS scores discharge, longer hospital stays. also had significantly frequency acute motor axonal neuropathy subtype (37.9 vs. 14.2, respectively; P = 0.001). Conclusion probably factor for especially Infections secondary may play role. possibility preceding (post-operative) infections not excluded study. presentation more course poorer prognosis, should be closely monitored. Guillain-Barré Syndrome and Postbariatric Surgery Polyneuropathies
BACKGROUND Postbariatric surgery poly-neuropathies (BSP) are infrequent events. However, with the number of gastric bypasses performed each year increasing, the incidence of BSP is expected to increase as well. The long-term sequelae of BSP worsen with delays in diagnoses. Therefore, early evaluation, recognition, and treatment are important in minimizing morbidity and mortality. METHODS We p...
متن کاملGuillain-Barré Syndrome After Revision Lumbar Surgery: A Case Report
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a term that is used to describe a group of immune-mediated peripheral neuropathies, with the most common feature being rapid polyradiculoneuropathy. The exact etiology of this syndrome is unknown. In the field of orthopedics, GBS has been reported to occur after total hip arthroplasty, orthopedic trauma, and spine surgery. We report a unique case of GBS after el...

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute demyelinating polyneuropathy characterized by progressive muscle weakness and areflexia. The pathogenesis of GBS is unknown, but it is generally believed to result from aberrant humoral and cellular immune responses against components of the peripheral nervous system. The overall prognosis of GBS is quite good with approximately 85% of survivors making ...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Guillain-Barré syndrome: brief report
Background: Guillain-Barré syndrome is an autoimmune inflammatory disease, which manifests itself as an acute motor weakness of the organs, diagnosed as affecting the motor spinal nerve roots generally and causing muscle and motor weakness, the cause of this disease is the presence of active antibodies against the myelin sheath around the spinal nerve roots. Guillain-Barré syndrome is the most ...

Guillain Barré syndrome is one of the best examples of a post infectious immune disease and offers insights into the mechanism of tissue damage in other more common autoimmune diseases. Controlled epidemiological studies have linked it to infection with Campylobacter jejuni in addition to other viruses including cytomegalovirus and Epstein Barr virus. The syndrome includes several pathological ...
